To Become a NEW REFEREE
USSF offers 2 grades (or levels) for new referees: 8 and 9. Grade 9 is geared to 11 and 12 year olds and requires a 50
question test. This is an excellent place to start for the young referee. Must attend all sessions and take the test.

Grade 9 clinic (only one given per year)

To upgrade from 9 to 8
Attend sessions 3, 4 and 5 of an Entry Level Clinic (grade 8 clinic).
For the new referees only: you will be able to referee in late 2009 and 2010 with your 2010 badge. You are covered by the USSF insurance for both of those years. Thereafter you must recertifiy every year (to get the new badge for that year). To recertify you must get 5 hours of continuing education and pass the test and pay the recert fee.

Grade 8 is the place where most people start their reffing careers. The recommended age is 12 years old and up. Must be able to pass a 100 question multiple choice test in an hour (special arrangements can be made for learning disabilities) All sessions must be attended and test passed with a 75% or better.

For Vancouver United Timbers (formerly CPSC) or FC Vancouver (of WA Soccer Academy) games please e-mail Drew Brooks at pepe091@msn.com , and for all Advanced Competition games - You must have been a Grade 8 for Minimum 1 year.

No entry level, Grade 9-Blue Badges are allowed on these matches.

* Please note that Vancouver United does not reimburse for Referee Clinics or uniforms. This is the investment or "skin in the game" that new referees make, and will easily be recouped as they get paid for reffing games.

Referee Payments

All "Center" referees (and ONLY center referees, not ARs) must enter their game report online at this link below in order to receive payment for their VUSA assigned match(es).  If you are assigned a game by another club/organization DO NOT use this form for payment.  Centers are to include all ARs in their game report who refereed with them, so they get paid as well.

===> ENTER REFEREE's GAME REPORT  <===
Remember IF you issued a Yellow or Red  card, you're not done, SEE BELOW!

You are required to enter your email address at the bottom of the form; this will ensure you are emailed a copy of each game report you enter.  Then you should email that copy to your ARs, so they know you took care of including them for payment.

ALL CENTER REFEREES MUST SUBMIT THEIR ONLINE GAME REPORT WITHIN 24 HOURS OF MATCH COMPLETION.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Any cards issued for Rec matches must complete the Misconduct Report (below) and send to Bill Allison at oscrefbill@yahoo.com  within 48 hours (preferably immediately following the match.)   Ejections must be reported within 24 hours and requires a phone call also.
